Friday Resource Geology Tip – 6 January 2023
Mentoring. “A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” — Bob Proctor. To be successful in professional life, we all need mentors. Those folks to provide guidance, opinions, corrections, direction, or perhaps a kick in the backside. Since most geologists exit university under-prepared (especially in mining and resource geology), the professional people we surround ourselves with and learn from are essential.
Some resource geos are fortunate enough to learn good practices early on and how to approach problems from a strong team or individual in a company. Unfortunately, many res geos have to make it up as they go or worse, have joined an antiquated group of thinkers enmeshed in dogma and checklists.
In the selfish hopes of both expanding my network and perhaps giving a little back, I plan to host several 20-minute mentoring sessions at the upcoming SME Annual Conference in Denver next month. If you’re attending the conference and interested in resource geology, general mining geology, or just want to bounce ideas, ask questions, or chat, please get in touch. Happy Friday!
